The Medium is the Message

In the dim and distant past, when marketing dinosaurs were young….Oh yes! we were young too and just like the modern young marketers, faced the future with excitement, enthusiasm and complete confidence in our ability to face and solve any and all the problems our profession could and undoubtedly would throw at us. No one could foresee that the future would bring not just one, but two "Big Bangs". The first would change everyone's thinking, the second would stop everyone's thinking. The first is, of course, "The Internet," the second "The Recession." What would we have done differently if we had known they were coming..?

Crisis? What Crisis?

A comedian, I can't remember which one, once said. "Recession is when you are out of work…depression is when I'm out of work!” With all the political chundering going on, debating whether the present recession is or isn't as bad as the nineteen thirties you'd imagine that everyone was, or was about to be, out of work; that disaster was about to overtake us all. But take the "Half Full" view of what is really happening.

Reflections of a Dinosaur

As a general rule I believe that dinosaurs should remain a part of their own time frame. There they have a relevance to each other and to their environment. I mention this because I think I can now claim bone fide dinosaur status having retired from business and the marketing scene in particular twenty odd years ago. But even dinosaurs leave information behind them that subsequent generations find useful and interesting.
