The First Day of...

I did some Christmas Shopping yesterday. It seemed as if everyone else was doing the same thing. For once our market town was busy, all the inns, and there are a lot of them, were full to capacity, so were the shops. The crowds were good humoured, the Christmas Lights twinkled, advertising messages blazed from every window, everything was “Reduced in Price” or “Interest Free”. In the food halls, enough food to feed the whole of Africa for a month was on offer and all at varying levels of price reduction, some of it at two for the price of one.

So, the year two thousand and nine approaches it’s end and another decade looms. At this time of year with rain lashing the windows and darkness closing in around four o’clock in the afternoon I always feel drawn to look back rather than forward. There will be time to think about new horizons after the New Year celebrations. In reflective mood I realised that forty years had passed since I had my biggest break in the publishing business. In 1969 the “Daily Mirror” was planning to launch it’s own colour magazine.

Now this makes me feel good....

Have you ever had an embarrassing fake tan disaster? I think just about everyone remembers the days when fake tans would turn you orange and streaky - definitely not an attractive look. I have tried many self tanning lotions and potions in the past and whilst there are many good products on the market now, it does take time to build up a decent colour and you have to be an experienced contortionist to get to those hard to reach places. Even having the fake tan applied professionally is not without its perils.
